For a third straight week, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON takes it to the top of the Box Office again with $12.5 million from 3,142 theatres for Universal Pictures. Although it was a tepid weekend in terms of ticket sales, this is enough to take bring the Hip-Hop Drama to $133 million cumulatively in its domestic run.
WAR ROOM debuts in second with $10.2 million from 1,135 theatres for Sony Pictures, although it didn’t get distribution in Canada. The faith-based Drama got 18% on the Tomatometer from Critics.
NO ESCAPE debuts in third with $9.8 million for The Weinstein Co./VVS Films. Starring Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan, the Action Flick got a B+ CinemaScore from Audiences and 41% on the Tomatometer.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION continues to perform well in fourth with $7.5 million in its fifth week out for Paramount Pictures. By early this week it will have exceeded $170 million in North America.
SINISTER 2 in its second week out is in sixth with $4.1 million for eOne Films/Focus Features from 2,799 theatres.
ANT-MAN rounds-out the Top Ten with $2.7 million for Disney/Marvel, nearing the $170 million-mark domestically in its seventh week out.
In its second week out, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON continues to motor-on at the top of the Box Office. Earning $27.5 million this weekend from 2.757 theatres, the Universal Pictures Hip-Hop Biopic based on the rise of Hip-Hop legends N.W.A., quickly has grossed $111.2 million domestically.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION continues to perform strongly in its fourth week out for Paramount Pictures, making $11.9 million, good enough for second. It has grossed $157 million in its North American run.
SINISTER 2 opens in third for eOne Films/Focus Features with $11 million. By comparison, its first installment made $18 million in its debut in 2012. Critics gave it 12% on the Tomatometer and Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore.
HITMAN: AGENT 47 opens in fourth with $8.3 million from 3,261 theatres for 20th Century Fox. Critics were tough on the Action flick starring Rupert Friend with a 7% on the Tomatometer and an okay B CinemaScore.
AMERICAN ULTRA starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, debuts in sixth for Elevation Pictures/Lionsgate with $5.6 million from 2,778 theatres. Critics gave it mixed reviews at 45% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.
FANTASTIC FOUR rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.5 million for 20th Century Fox, earning $49 million in its three-week run.
Buzz has enormous for STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, but nobody would product a debut this huge. The Musical Biopic about N.W.A. opens right at the top to staggering numbers, a $59.4 million debut from 2,757 theatres for Universal Pictures. Reviews peg the Film at 88% on the Tomatometer while Audiences gave the Film by F. Gary Gray, an A CinemaScore.
Two-week champ MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION slips to second with $17 million for Paramount Pictures. In three weeks it has grossed $138 million domestically.
THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. opens in third with $13.6 million from Warner Bros., from 3,686 theatres. Reviews for the Reboot of the TV Series of the same name have been veering to the positive with 67% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore. The Ensemble Cast landed in Toronto earlier this week in a jet-set Promo Tour. More here.
FANTASTIC FOUR lands in fourth this weekend with $7.9 million for 20th Century Fox. In two weeks it has earned $41 million.
THE GIFT is in fifth spot this weekend, in its second week out with $6.1 million for SFX Entertaiment/D Films. Thus far it has made $23.2 million.
TRAINWRECK still is going strong in its fifth week out with $3.8 million for Universal Pictures, rounding-out the Top Ten. The Critical success is verging on the $100-million-mark in North America.
The competition came from every which direction. Neither Meryl nor Marvel could take it down! For the second week in a row MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION take the top of the Box Office with $29 million for Paramount Pictures, from 3,988 theatres. In two weeks it has surpassed $108 million domestically.
FANTASTIC FOUR, a third attempt at rebooting the Franchise into Film, opens in second with $26 million for 20th Century Fox from 3,995 theatres. This latest Adaptation starring Kate Mara, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan failed to please critically with a 9% on the Tomatometer and a C- CinemaScore. Word is that Director/Writer Josh Trank really was displeased with what came of the Film, having originally a completely different vision for it.
THE GIFT opens in third with $12 million for D Films and STX Entertainment, from 2,503 theatres. Critics adored the Thriller with a 93% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it a B CinemaScore. Joel Edgerton stars and directs the Film.
VACATION lands in fourth spot with $9 million in its second week out, now grossing $37 million thus far for Warner Bros.
RICKI AND THE FLASH opens in seventh with $6.7 million from 1,603 theatres for Sony Pictures. The Jonathan Demme Comedy starring Meryl Streep gets a B CinemaScore from Audiences and a mixed 59% from Critics.
SOUTHPAW rounds-out the Top Ten with $4.7 million for eOne Films and The Weinstein Co. In three weeks it has just suprassed the $40-million-mark.
Mission accomplished! MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION makes a smashing debut at the Box Office with $52 million from 3,956 theatres for Paramount Pictures! Compared to its Predecessors, it rates second among the popular Franchise only behind 2000’s MISSION POSSIBLE II, which opened with $57 million. Critics adored this latest installment which places a still highly-bankable Tom Cruise opposite Swedish-born Actress Rebecca Ferguson, giving it 92% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore from Audiences.
VACATION opens in second with $14 million from 3,411 theatres for Warner Bros. This latest installment of the National Lampoon’s Franchise is the biggest opening for the Series, which dates all the way back to 1983. Critics gave the Comedy starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate a 23% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
ANT-MAN in its third week out earns $12.4 million for Disney/Marvel, from 3,322 theatres. Thus far it has grossed $183 million.
MINIONS ranks fourth this weekend with $12.1 million for Universal Pictures in its fourth week out. It has made $283 million this far domestically.
PIXELS places fifth for Sony Pictures with $10.1 million in its second week out, just ahead of TRAINWRECK with $9.7 million for Universal Pictures.
JURASSIC WORLD still is going strong, hanging-on to the Top Ten with $3.6 million in tenth spot. In eight weeks it has banked $631 million for Universal Pictures.

Official Synopsis:
Blamed for a terrorist attack on the Kremlin, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the entire IMF agency are disavowed by the U.S. government, while the president initiates the Ghost Protocol. Forced to go “off the grid” — left without resources or backup — Hunt must somehow clear the agency’s name and prevent another attack. Complicating matters even more, Ethan must undertake the impossible mission with a group of fellow IMF fugitives whose actual motives are suspect.
