Opening in theatres August 8, 2025, Elevation Pictures release Amar Wala‘s semi-autobiographical SHOOK. The Scarborough-set Drama centers on an aspiring Author who is going through major changes in his family life, including his father’s sudden Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis. At once, he meets a Barista and they enter a relationship just as she also is undergoing some major life changes. SHOOK stars Saamer Usmani and Amy Forsyth.
After positive reception at TIFF ’24 where it premiered, Toronto got a special Advance Screening at Cineplex Varsity Cinemas where the Film’s stars partook in a Q&A, along with Wala and his Co-Writer Adnan Khan.
The Film captures Scarborough beautifully and its specificity as part of Toronto’s cultural fabric, led by a fantastic performance by Usmani, who we recognize from Three Body Problem, Inventing Anna, Succession, What/If, and many other high-profile series. A little more on our Letterboxd.
