Netflix Canada today announced an expanded partnership with comedian, actor and screenwriter, Mae Martin. As part of the new first look deal Martin will create and develop series projects and they will also star in a new stand-up special for Netflix.
The deal comes on the heels of the success of last fall’s thriller series Wayward.
The show world premiered at TIFF and following its release on Netflix spent five weeks on the global top 10.
Martin previously created, wrote and starred in the Netflix series Feel Good and debuted their first hour-long comedy special SAP on Netflix in 2023.
Quote from Mae Martin: Over the last seven years I’ve been lucky to build relationships at Netflix that have felt supportive and creatively empowering, allowing my stories (and weird jokes about snow globes, etc.) to reach a global audience. I’m so grateful to continue that relationship, and this vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well! I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.
Quote from Danielle Woodrow, Director, Content – Canada: “Mae is a singular voice who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything they do. We were thrilled with the success of Wayward and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.”
