Today, Disney+ introduced the award-winning filmmakers of Lucasfilm’s upcoming “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” series with a roundtable video featuring Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard and David Lowery. During the roundtable, the filmmakers take a deep dive into the series and discuss their inspirations and visions that fueled bringing it to life.

Head writers and executive producers Watts and Ford pulled together a “crew” of their own when they set off to find a cadre of directors to helm the space-adventure series. And what they found were some of Hollywood’s most talented and exciting directors whose grasp of storytelling through the lens has made them standouts. Winner of the Golden Bear at the 2024 Berlinale, Dahomey is an immersive and astounding new work of art from Mati Diop (Atlantics). Delving into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self-determination and restitution, this acclaimed feature is a poetic look at a seldom-discussed history.

Taking place in November 2021, the film takes as its subject 26 royal treasures of the Kingdom of Dahomey, which, along with thousands of others, were plundered by French colonial troops in 1892. As these artifacts are due to leave Paris to return to their country of origin: the present-day Republic of Benin, Diop questions how they should be received in a country that has reinvented itself in their absence, using ethereal voiceover and footage of debating students at the University of Abomey-Calavi to offer multiple perspectives.

By turns invigorating and thought-provoking, Diop’s latest uses compelling non-traditional storytelling techniques to powerfully bring the past into the present, offering an affecting though altogether singular conversation piece that is as spellbinding as it is essential.

Mati Diop’s first feature, Atlantics (2019), won the Grand Prix at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, establishing her as one of the leading figures in international arthouse cinema and the new wave in African and diasporic cinema. Apple TV+ today announced it will expand its award-winning original series slate with a series order for “Cape Fear,” a new series that will be written and showrun by Nick Antosca (“The Act,” “Candy,” “A Friend of the Family”) and executive produced by Academy Award-winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, with Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem starring and executive producing.

In “Cape Fear,” a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison. The 10-episode series is a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.

Hailing from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television, “Cape Fear” is based on both the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s Universal Pictures feature (1962) of the same name, as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Scorsese.

The series will be executive produced by Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Creator Antosca will executive produce alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat; and, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP, where he’s been based since 2017.

In addition to “Cape Fear,” Bardem will also soon be seen in Apple Original Films’ highly anticipated feature “F1,” set to premiere in theatres globally on June 25, 2025. The series marks the latest collaboration for Amblin Television and Apple TV+ following the acclaimed, global hit series “Masters of the Air.” Apple also recently collaborated with Scorsese on the history-making, 10x Academy Award-nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

A story so sensational, it could only happen in Canada! Prime Video and Blumhouse Television present limited series THE STICKY. The Dark Comedy is based on true events and at the heart of the story is a maple syrup farmer named Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale), who turns to crime after authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. And there potentially could be murder!

Series also stars Chris Diamantopoulos as a mobster and Guillaume Cyr as a security guard. Together, they carry out a multi-million-dollar maple syrup heist. Jamie Lee Curtis also appears in a guest role, while serving as a Producer! THE STICKY arrives December 6, 2024 globally on Prime Video.

The Trio of Actors are in Toronto promoting the Series and also will walk the Red Carpet at its world premiere this evening. They were all in great spirits doing the rounds. Such a great honour meeting three-time Emmy winner Martindale who we are a huge fan of!
