MUBI, the global film distributor, production company and streaming service is thrilled to announce Mati Diop’s captivating and thought-provoking documentary Dahomey will be available to stream exclusively on MUBI in Canada from December 13, 2024.
Winner of the Golden Bear at the 2024 Berlinale, Dahomey is an immersive and astounding new work of art from Mati Diop (Atlantics). Delving into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self-determination and restitution, this acclaimed feature is a poetic look at a seldom-discussed history.
Taking place in November 2021, the film takes as its subject 26 royal treasures of the Kingdom of Dahomey, which, along with thousands of others, were plundered by French colonial troops in 1892. As these artifacts are due to leave Paris to return to their country of origin: the present-day Republic of Benin, Diop questions how they should be received in a country that has reinvented itself in their absence, using ethereal voiceover and footage of debating students at the University of Abomey-Calavi to offer multiple perspectives.
By turns invigorating and thought-provoking, Diop’s latest uses compelling non-traditional storytelling techniques to powerfully bring the past into the present, offering an affecting though altogether singular conversation piece that is as spellbinding as it is essential.
Mati Diop’s first feature, Atlantics (2019), won the Grand Prix at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, establishing her as one of the leading figures in international arthouse cinema and the new wave in African and diasporic cinema. Her nomadic, lyrical and political cinema crosses boundaries between genres and formats, as an extension of her dual Franco-Senegalese identity and proud Creoleness.
DAHOMEY WILL BE AVAILABLE TO STREAM EXCLUSIVELY
ON MUBI IN CANADA FROM DECEMBER 13, 2024.

Apple TV+ today announced it will expand its award-winning original series slate with a series order for “Cape Fear,” a new series that will be written and showrun by Nick Antosca (“The Act,” “Candy,” “A Friend of the Family”) and executive produced by Academy Award-winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, with Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem starring and executive producing.
In “Cape Fear,” a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison. The 10-episode series is a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.
Hailing from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television, “Cape Fear” is based on both the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s Universal Pictures feature (1962) of the same name, as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Scorsese.
The series will be executive produced by Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Creator Antosca will executive produce alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat; and, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP, where he’s been based since 2017.
In addition to “Cape Fear,” Bardem will also soon be seen in Apple Original Films’ highly anticipated feature “F1,” set to premiere in theatres globally on June 25, 2025. The series marks the latest collaboration for Amblin Television and Apple TV+ following the acclaimed, global hit series “Masters of the Air.” Apple also recently collaborated with Scorsese on the history-making, 10x Academy Award-nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Apple TV+ offers premium, compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment, and is available to watch across all of a user’s favourite screens. After its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries and series have earned 523 wins and 2,374 award nominations and counting, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy “Ted Lasso” and historic Oscar Best Picture winner “CODA.”

We absolutely are here for this new wave of stories told in Asian-American stories and INTERIOR CHINATOWN from Producer Taika Waititi is no exception. Balancing comedy, drama and suspense on all wheels, this ten-episode series (approximately 40 minutes each) takes us through a journey with an unlikely hero.
The story centers on Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), a waiter at a Chinese restaurant and struggling background actor on a cop show, who finds himself in a mystery of his own after witnessing a woman get abducted. As the story progresses, we learn more and more about the criminal underworld of Chinatown, while he seeks to find out what happened to his estranged brother. He teams with up-and-coming Detective in Lana Lee (Chloe Bennet) to solve the crime, but she also faces some of her own dilemmas trying to gain respect and competition at her bureau from her peer Sarah Green (Canadian Lisa Gilroy). Willis is set on breaking through the confines of his environment to figure out where he truly fits in his own story.
Though it takes a moment to find its footing, this is a fun thrill ride of a satire which at its core is a look at how we the under-represented are placed into boxes, and what it means to find your own Main Character Energy. And believe me, someone out there needs to see someone who looks like them on-screen and could use this message.
Yang gets his moment in a leading role is able and ready for the challenge, navigating the more dramatic elements and also the comedic. It’s been a moment since we’ve seen Bennet, but we’ve always been a fan and she is magentic here, while Chieng brings the laughs as Fatty, a good friend and co-worker at Golden Palace where he and Willis work. This Cast is rounded out by some familiar faces including funnyman Archie Kao who balances this out with a bit of drama as Uncle Wong, and of course everyone’s favourite on-screen Asian dad, Tzi Ma as Joe Wu.
INTERIOR CHINATOWN arrives November 19, 2024 on Disney+ Canada.
