Toronto welcomed back funnyman Will Ferrell to the City as he brought his new Netflix series over for a press day! The series, which he created, has him starring as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a former top golfer who’s eager to re-claim his throne. Along the way he encounters some obstacles, like re-connecting with his wife played by Molly Shannon, and also competing against his son Lance, played by Jimmy Tatro. Also in attendance was Co-star Luke Wilson, who stars as Golden Fisk, an archrival of Lonnie’s.
Prior to the screening, Richard Course moderated a Q&A with Ferrell and Wilson. Ferrell tells the audience about his narcissistic character, whom he calls a “scoundrel”. The series consists of ten episodes, with some chatter of a second coming. Ferrell is the funniest he’s been in quite some time, delivering over-the-top delusion, and a resistance to maturity. Shannon also is unrelentingly ferocious as well! Fun fact: the two filmed 1999’s SUPERSTAR here in Toronto together, hence Ferrell is no stranger to the City!
Some highlights from the night:
