Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
The duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, better known as Radio Silence are back with the sequel to their deadly game of cat and mouse with Ready or Not 2: Here I Come! The Film accomplishes a very rare and difficult feat – improves on the original and makes a sequel that surpasses on every level of entertainment. While Ready or Not didn’t need a sequel, audiences will be delighted that it exists, flourish in the bloody soaked extravaganza and fall in love all over again with Grace MacCaullay and her fight for survival. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is the bloody good time we need, and the one we deserve.
The Film takes place literally at the end of Ready or Not, as in it recreates the end and extends the ending (something Radio Silence has said in interviews this idea was originally just a post credit scene) and then Grace (Samara Weaving) faints and wakes up in the hospital in police custody. Queue the entrance of the unknown to audiences, Faith (Kathryn Newton) Grace’s estranged sister who happened to still be her emergency contact. Grace tries to explain what happened, but Faith is more curious than anything, but there is clear tension here. Happening conversely to Grace and Faith’s newfound connection, warranted or not, The Danforths (consisting of Chester, Titus and Ursula [David Cronenberg, Shawn Hatosy and Sarah Michelle Gellar, respectively) have to fight to keep their seat at the High Council as the Le Bail family was unable to kill Grace in their wicked game of Hide and Seek.
This is all explained by The Lawyer (Elijah Wood) and the oldest members of each of the families in the High Council now have to play another game of Hide and Seek. The family member who kills Grace, wins the top chair of the High Council and appeases Satan, welcome back to the world’s most horrific game of Hide and Seek, Grace. Faith also is certainly in for the ride of her life! The other families are led by Wan Chen Xing (Olivia Cheng), Madhu Rajan (Varun Saranga), Ignacio (Nestor Carbonell) – whose daughter, Francesca (Maia Jae) was supposed to be Alex’s wife (Mark O’Brien from the first movie) so she is particularly invested in Grace’s death, and a brief run of interference from the Wilkinson family, led by Bill (Kevin Durand). Everyone wants the top seat, as having the top seat provides you the power to control the world. Can Grace and now Faith survive another deadly game of Hide and Seek and gain the power themselves? Or will one family outsmart Grace and finally do what the Le Bail family could not and kill her? Sit back and prepare because Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is coming for you!
While, every member of the Cast, minus Weaving is new to this particular entry, some of them have worked with Radio Silence before. If you’re a fan of Radio Silence’s work (Scream V, Scream VI, Abigail), then you know exactly what you’re getting into. Weaving is still great, and despite being severely injured – as this takes place presumably a day after the first movie (hospital visit and the time for Danforth’s to assemble the council, etc.) she needs the help of Faith, and Kathryn Newton delivering her own brand of butt-kicking action is on-par with Weaving, making them be not only believable as sisters but truly cut from the same cloth.
Gellar and Hatosy as the pinnacle of evil and destined to hold the chair, are terrific as well, with Hatosy truly embracing the evil desperation of his character. Wood continues to deliver his specific brand of Horror Comedy, which works as the essential narrator of the Movie, who gives us exposition without it feeling like exposition. Overall, the entire Ccast of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come delivers tenfold to make this sequel such a fun, over-the-top, bloody riot that is surely going to delight fans of the original and prove that sometimes the best things come to those who wait.
Searchlight Pictures release READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME in theatres on Friday, March 20, 2026.
