If you’re looking for something fun, bonkers and grotesque to shake you up out of these winter blahs, the visionary Sam Raimi’s lates, SEND HELP is exactly for you!
This marks a return after a brief hiatus from Canadian sweetheart Rachel McAdams, who stars as Linda, in-line for a promotion to Vice President in her organization. That is, until her boss passes and hands authority over to his nepo baby son Bradley (Dylan O’Brien). Of course, Bradley isn’t impressed with Linda‘s introverted demeanour and frumpy presentation, giving the promotion to her colleague for no reason more than the fact that she’s a woman and can’t golf with the boys in executive leadership.
To appease the snub, Linda’s invited on a business trip with the executives to Thailand, where the plane crashes suddenly. Only Linda and Bradley survive and in a world without hierarchy, we see the two struggle with their newfound dynamic. Linda, who dreams of being a Survivor contestant, of course, thrives in the wild where she runs things, and just might never want to leave.
Raimi does a fine job balancing the Film’s strong sense of Dark Comedy, with balanced doses of gore and the grotesque. While SEND HELP is ultimately a Horror, true to Raimi‘s brand, it is a hilarious one. Bill Pope‘s Cinematography captures the beauty of this remote island in Thailand, taking us into Linda‘s state of mind, making it easy for us to see why she doesn’t want to go.
O’Brien plays Bradley perfectly, keeping us guessing if he’s changed for the good… or not. He’s all in and dialed-up. McAdams really takes Linda through a journey, taking her from mousy and frumpy to a warrior queen who fully realizes the woman she is meant to be after years of being put through the patriarchal ringer.
SEND HELP is a guaranteed good time, packed with thrills, laughs and squeamishness. 20th Century Studios Canada release SEND HELP January 30, 2026.
