Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Focusing on two Characters, the Officer assigned the task of taking-down Drug Kingpins, Pierre Michel (Jean Dujardin) and the Drug Kingpin Tany Zampa (Gilles Lellouche), The Connection is a rather solid Mafia-versus-Cop Thriller. These two Characters squabble a few times throughout the Film as Tany proves resilient, while Pierre will not rest until Tany is off the streets. The Film shares a striking resemblance to American Gangster – a different story, but the caliber and substance certainly are there. Throughout the Movie, there are multiple turns and twists that will keep the audience thoroughly engaged and at the edge of their seats.
The Connection though unfinished still is an excellent Film that explores conventions and techniques not often seen in Contemporary Cinema in these parts. The performances from Oscar-winning Dujardin and Lellouche are absolutely fantastic proving well that in North America there is a market for their talents.
The Connection screens Friday, September 12, 2014 6:30 PM at Roy Thomson Hall and  Saturday, September 13, 2014 9 AM at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema.
