This December, Down Home is celebrating everything we love about Christmas, including nostalgic dishes, cozy flavours, charming traditions and plenty of good wine.
The 16-seat restaurant in Grey County is serving a festive 10-course tasting menu inspired by the family Christmases of chef Joel Gray and Hannah Harradine.
Guests are welcomed around the fire with a glass of hot buttered rum before settling in for dishes including tourtière hand pies, quail Scotch eggs and whole roasted duck with rutabaga and stuffing. To finish, brown butter apple cake is served with spiced custard and spruce-poached apples.
The menu is $225 per guest, including the welcome drink. House-made eggnog with Nova Scotia rum, Glühwein and chai cider will also be available. Reservations for December open October 30.
The holiday celebrations continue at Down Home’s retail shop, stocked with felt ornaments and stockings made by regional artists, alongside seasonal food items for gifting or bringing home.
