Paramount+ announced today that the delightful, family-friendly adventure SMURFS, from Paramount Animation, will arrive on the service on September 16, 2025 in Canada and the U.S.

Hailed as “a great film for the whole family to enjoy” (Jade Carmen Davie / CLICK AND TELL PODCAST), SMURFS blends humor with wholesome, high-stakes fun and follows the beloved characters as they team up to face epic challenges with heart, courage, and comedy.

In SMURFS, Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the crew on a daring rescue mission to save Papa Smurf (John Goodman) after he is mysteriously kidnapped by the evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel. The Smurfs team up with new friends on an epic adventure that takes them into the real world, where they discover that their true destiny is to save the universe.

The film features an all-star voice cast including Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.

SMURFS joins additional titles in the franchise available on Paramount+, where subscribers with a penchant for the powder blue pint-sized pals can check out The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, which feature Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays in live-action roles alongside Hank Azaria as a curmudgeonous Gargamel.

Additionally, Paramount+ is the go-to streaming service for a never-ending offering of family-friendly entertainment, including iconic series like SpongeBob SquarePants and Paw Patrol, as well as blockbusters in the SONIC THE HEDGEHOG and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES universes.

SMURFS is rated PG for action, language and some rude humor.

A huge opening for THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS this weekend with a $125 million debut from 4,125 theatres for Marvel/Disney. Not only this, it gets stellar reviews at 88% on the Tomatometer. This easily bests its previous franchise record of a $58 million opening back in 2007 with RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. It’s clobbering time, indeed!

Second goes to SUPERMAN with $24.5 million in its third weekend out, taking it to $289 million for Warner Bros. domestically.

Up for third is JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH with $13 million in its fourth weekend out for Universal Pictures. To date it has grossed $301 million.

Fourth is F1 with $6.3 million for Sony Pictures, a two week run of $165 million.

Rounding things out is SMURFS with $5.6 million, a two week tally of $23 million for Paramount Pictures.

SUPERMAN continues to fly high with a second weekend of $55 million from 4,275 theatres at the Box Office. This takes it already to $232.7 million in North America for Warner Bros.

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH takes second with $21 million, bringing it ro $271.2 million for Universal Pictures in its third weekend.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER debuts in third with $15 million from 3,206 theatres for Sony Pictures, coming it with 38% on the Tomatometer. This actually performs similarly to the Film’s predecessors which opened in the late ’90s to similar numbers.

Fourth is SMURFS, opeming with $12 million from 3,504 theatres. It gets 21% on the Tomatometer for Paramount Pictures. Best franchise opening goes to 2011’s THE SMURFS with $35 million.

F1 rounds it out with $6.4 million for Warner Bros., a domestic run of $153.4 million.
