ECHO, Cirque du Soleil’s 20th original Big Top production, which premiered to much acclaim earlier this year, is coming to Toronto, ON. ECHO, presented by Sun Life, is a story of connection, intention, and the symbiotic unions between humans and the animal kingdom. Packed with vibrant characters, inspiring music, astounding lights and projections, and never-before-seen acrobatic feats, ECHO invites audiences on a journey through a universe of colour, wonder, and infinite possibilities.

Cirque du Soleil performer turned choreographer and creator, Mukhtar Omar Sharif Mukhtar, is the Author-Director of ECHO. The visionary show brings a bold new modernistic aesthetic that is centered around a formidable CUBE that stands two storeys high and uses the most-ever projections in a Cirque du Soleil show to create a transportive environment and transformative experience.

Fueled by the power of change, the hope of the youth, and the value of empathy, ECHO follows an inquisitive young woman named FUTURE as she wanders into a fantasy world that explores our sacred bond with animals and nature. ECHO will make its Toronto premiere from May 8 to July 21, 2024, under the iconic Big Top at its returning location at 2150 Lake Shore Blvd. W. in the neighbourhood of Mimico. Toronto will be only the fourth city to experience ECHO since its global premiere in Montreal in April 2023. ECHO is the 20th Big Top creation from Cirque du Soleil and its 51st overall, with a cast of 52 artists representing 19 different nationalities.

ECHO Firsts:

ECHO is Cirque du Soleil’s first new original Big Top creation since 2018’s Bazzar.
ECHO is the first ever Cirque du Soleil show to feature 6 live vocalists, with most of the musicians also singing throughout the show.
ECHO uses an impressive 10 video projectors to cover the CUBE, the stage, and the artists, which marks the most ever for a Cirque du Soleil Big Top show.

Immersive Cirque du Soleil Tycoon Experience is Now Officially Available on Roblox
In partnership with the leading metaverse game developer, Gamefam, families around the globe can now experience Cirque du Soleil’s newest contemporary circus show, ECHO, and raise the Big Top from the comfort of their homes. Users on Roblox can build and manage their own Big Top show by unlocking crucial show elements, including artists, acrobatic performances, training studios, costume and makeup workshops, all while interacting with other users and their friends. Those who engage in the experience will also have the opportunity to dress up their avatar in true Cirque du Soleil fashion, try out interactive challenges to test their skills, and design their stage, which can then be performed later for other community members on the platform.

#FIRSTLOOK: CIRQUE DU SOLEIL “KOOZA” TORONTO PREMIERE

Cirque du Soleil welcomed more than 2500 VIP guests, stars of film, television and music, notable influencers as well as business and philanthropic leaders to the Big Top last night to celebrate the Toronto premiere of the acclaimed and most daring touring production to date, KOOZA.  Cirque du Soleil CEO Stephane Lefebvre joined the  festivities to mark KOOZA’s 16^th anniversary since debuting in 2007.

The ‘Gold’ carpet was abuzz with celebrity sightings including newly minted Canadian Screen Award Winners Olunike Adeliyi (The Porter) and Amanda Brugel (Sort Of), as well Workin’ Moms Juno Rinaldi and Dani Kind, Daniel Maslany, Karen LeBlanc, Kevin Hanchard, John Ralston, and Kris Holden-Ried.

TV and media personalities such as Tracy Moore, Cheryl Hickey, Canada’s Got Talent judges Kardinal Offishall and Trish Stratus, Big Brother Canada host Arisa Cox, and Dragon’s Den’sWes Hall — all made it a family night out.  

Literary icon Margaret Atwood, Champion figure skater Elvis Stojko, celebrity chefs Massimo Capra and Claudio Aprile, and HGTV star Sarah Richardson were among the notable guests who took a front row seat to the jaw-dropping acrobatics.

#FIRSTLOOK: “CIRQUE DU SOLEIL – KURIOS (CABINET OF CURIOSITIES)”

The official Synopsis of Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS (CABINET OF CURIOSITIES) is as follows: The story is about a scientist, known as The Seeker, who is convinced that there is an invisible world in his larger-than-life cabinet full of crazy ideas and grand dreams, which defy the laws of time, space, and dimension. Determined to reinvent everything around him, suddenly the visible becomes invisible, perspectives are transformed, and the world is literally turned upside down.

Boy, does it ever!

I’ve been fortunate to have seen many Cirque du Soleil productions, both in Montreal and Toronto, and I can emphatically and unequivocally state that KURIOS exceeds expectations. From the Company’s opening statement that they were thrilled to perform in front of an audience for the first time in over two and a half years to the rousing finale, the audience was apoplectic with joy and awe. The constant thunderous applause throughout the Show reverberated in the Big Tent at Ontario Place. The two-hour show is a whirlwind of death-defying acts, coupled with sweet humour, infectious music, outlandishly original costumes, and choreography. Thought you were cool in school when you were able to “walk the dog” with your yoyo? Just wait until you see one hypnotic performer do “tricks” in time to a hyperkinetic Soundtrack. You think the contortionists manipulating their lithe bodies into positions unknown was mind blowing? Just wait thirty seconds and your mind will explode! And when the Synopsis says that the world is turned upside, it’s not hyperbole – it DOES turn upside down.

Cirque du Soleil’s strength with manipulating typical circus fare and elevating it high into the stratosphere is on full force. KURIOS had the adults in the seats following a spotlight to see where the invisible lion has escaped to!

Cirque du Soleil is back this Spring in Toronto and this is your chance to witness the magic that is their new show, KURIOS – CABINET OF CURIOSITIES! Get ready again for the Big Top being raised once again as part of our skyline!

Based on great response, the show will be adding seven more weeks to its originally scheduled run, taking place April 14 to July 17, 2022.

The extension also comes on the heels of the province lifting all COVID-19 capacity limits, along with the Government of Canada easing travel and border restrictions, as excitement builds for the summer tourism season and return to live entertainment events.
