Equinoxe Films and Righteous Alliance Entertainment are pleased to announce that FINCH AND MIDLAND, written and directed by Timothy Yeung, will be released in select Canadian cities on Friday, February 13th with charity events and screenings slated for Wednesday, February 11th at the Cineplex Varsity Cinemas in Toronto, ON and on Thursday, February 12th at the Cineplex Markham Cinemas in downtown Markham, ON.
“We chose to title the film, Finch & Midland, because it’s a well known area for many Chinese immigrants who decided to settle in the GTA back in the late ‘90s and early 2000s,” says Yeung. “And Scarborough is still a very welcoming place for new immigrants that have chosen to call Canada home.”
“We wanted to support these two specific charities based in Scarborough – Community Family Services of Ontario and Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities – because they do so much for newcomers,” continues Ridley Tsui, Executive Producer. “We will be hosting a reception with some of our cast before each preview screening, and a portion of the evenings’ ticket sales will go towards these organizations.”
FINCH AND MIDLAND follows four Hong Kong immigrants navigating fractured family ties, career challenges, and the search for love and belonging. Each story showcases not only the characters’ struggles but also highlights the hope and resilience that play a big part in the lives of all immigrants as they strive to embrace Canadian culture. The film features a Hong Kong and Canadian cast including Anthony Wong (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Infernal Affairs, Hard Boiled), Patrick Tam (Fight for Tomorrow, Mutant, Beast Cops), Nina Paw (aka Hee Ching Paw, Mou Ming Zi, Jue Ming Fa Guan, Lost in Time), Harriet Yeung (Hit N Fun, Port of Call, The Sparring Partner), Theresa Lee (Ruthless Bastards, Condor Heroes, Ai wei yang, Son of the Dragon), Dmitry Chepovetsky (Children Ruin Everything, Murdoch Mysteries, MI: Ghost Protocol) and Jaden Kwan (Chucky).
On Wednesday, February 11th, the reception will be starting at 5PM at Yueh Tung Restaurant in Toronto prior to the Cineplex Varsity Cinemas 7PM screening. On Thursday, February 12th, the reception will be starting at 5PM at Good Catch Cafe in downtown Markham prior to the Cineplex Markham Cinemas 7PM screening. Cast in attendance at the receptions include actors Anthony Wong, Dmitry Chepovetsky, Skye Chan, Jaden Kwan, Simon Lau, Wavy Zhao, Jenny Hong, Samantha Ji, Kayla Fok, Stephen Woo and Stephen Wong. There will also be a short Q&A after each screening.
Written and directed by Timothy Yeung (90 Days), FINCH AND MIDLAND premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival to sold out screenings, was selected to the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, Reel Asian Film Festival in Toronto and Anthony Wong was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at Taipei’s prestigious Golden Horse Awards this past year. FINCH AND MIDLAND is produced by Kim Yu (The Swearing Jar, Ex-Door Neighbour) and executive produced by Ridley Tsui (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, The Monkey King), Annie Lee and Michael Mosca (Mississippi Scholar, Winnie Mandela, A Sunday in Kigali).
