One of the biggest joys of the Pandemic was discovering INDIAN MATCHMAKING! Season Two of this Reality Dating Series now is before us with eight new episodes, and where has the time gone? Once again in this upcoming season, we join renowned Matchmaker Sima Taparia as she continues her efforts to help some of our singles from Season One who are still experiencing tough luck in the pairing department. She continues to trust her instincts, guiding these men and women with a tried, tested and true method, still consulting with Astrology and face readings occasionally from Sushil-Ji.
We reunite with the particular Aparna, who in addition to searching for the right new condo, still is looking for and she just might have finally met her match. But will her list of demands lead to sabotage? We meet the handsome and eligible Akshay, an heir to a chicken empire who lives out in a remote part of India, making it tough for him to find love, though we learn there might be some unresolved issues of the past and mystic forces behind that. New to the mix is Viral, a super-successful woman who works in Pharmaceuticals but has found her success wards-off potential suitors as she’s intimidating. Like Aparna, she is very clear who she wants and doesn’t want. Do you believe she gets set-up with a guy also named Viral? And how can we forget lovable Nadia, who’s so eager to find love but just keeps facing rejection? These and so many more storylines on Season Two including check-ins from some of those no-longer-singles we met in Season One. And even factors in the Pandemic. One couple nervously share a drink but only after discussing that they’ve been tested prior to filming.
Passions flare and frustrations grow, and we found ourselves drawn right back in so easily. We want these people to fall in love but also is it awful that we don’t so we can keep following their journeys? Luscious backdrops, intimate moments and of course Sima‘s maternal wisdom keep us coming back for more.
INDIAN MATCHMAKING Season Two premieres August 12, 2022 on Netflix.
The 2022 TIFF Tribute Gala is set to take place Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Fairmont Royal York Hotel and being honoured this year is the Cast of MY POLICEMAN, including Harry Styles and Emma Corrin! The TIFF Tribute Award for Performance is presented by Polestar and the Awards are brought to us by BVLGARI. This marks the first time an Ensemble is being honoured, in addition to a new gender-neutral acting award.
Synopsis of MY POLICEMAN:
Adapted for the screen by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Ron Nyswaner from Bethan Roberts’ award-winning novel of the same name, Prime Video’s My Policeman follows three young people — policeman Tom (Styles), teacher Marion (Corrin), and museum curator Patrick (Dawson) — as they embark on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain. Flashing forward to the 1990s, Tom (Roache), Marion (McKee), and Patrick (Everett) are still reeling with longing and regret, but now they have one last chance to repair the damage of the past. Grandage carves a visually transporting, heart-stopping portrait of three people caught up in the shifting tides of history, liberty, and forgiveness.
The TIFF Tribute Awards have served as an awards-season bellwether, with past honourees Jessica Chastain, Roger Deakins, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Joaquin Phoenix, Taika Waititi, and Chloé Zhao going on to win awards on the international stage. The TIFF Tribute Awards honour the film industry’s outstanding contributors and their achievements, recognizing leading industry members, acting talent, directorial expertise, new talent, and a below-the-line artist and creator. The Awards event also serves as TIFF’s largest annual fundraiser to support TIFF’s Every Story fund, which promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in film and TIFF’s core mission to transform the way people see the world through film. More information on the 2022 TIFF Tribute Awards event and this year’s honourees will follow in the coming weeks.

We loved him so much in Academy Award-winning Best Picture MOONLIGHT and have been waiting ever since for him to come back! Andre Holland finally returns to Toronto and currently is working on Apple TV+ Series THE BIG CIGAR, directed by Don Cheadle.
Holland gained widespread accolades for his performances as the grown-up Kevin Jones in MOONLIGHT, Andrew Young in Ava DuVernay‘s SELMA, Rebecca Hall‘s PASSING and also starred in American Horror Story: ROANOKE as Matt Miller. All the while, he has been busy at work on-stage on and off Broadway. And now this deserved starring role as Huey P. Newton in the Biographical Series about the Black Panther Party’s leader and his attempt to escape to Cuba.
So happy I finally got to meet him Holland who was out and about for a stroll. MOONLIGHT is definitely one of my favourite Films of the last ten years, so this means a lot to me.

MIDNIGHT MADNESS
“I am thrilled to announce that Midnight Madness has returned to its traditional 10-film configuration and has a new home at the Royal Alexandra Theatre,” said section curator Peter Kuplowsky. “I also couldn’t have hoped for a more appropriate Opening Night film than Weird: The Al Yankovic Story — a beautifully deranged ‘biopic’ made in the great Midnight movie tradition of challenging conventions and forging one’s own path, no matter how weird.”
Starring Daniel Radcliffe as music and comedy legend “Weird Al” Yankovic, the film leads a gonzo Midnight Madness lineup that includes a double dose of gore-filled action (Sisu and Project Wolf Hunting), two wildly surprising new instalments to iconic horror films (Pearl and V/H/S 99), some magnificently meta genre comedies (The Blackening, The People’s Joker, and Leonor Will Never Die), and a few killer creative horror team-ups (John Hyams and Kevin Williamson’s Sick, Jaume Balagueró and Álex de la Iglesia’s Venus).
Concluding, Kuplowsky added: “This year, fans of the weird and the wicked will be spending most of their TIFF living in a Midnight Madness paradise.”

WAVELENGTHS
“The selections in this year’s Wavelengths lineup reimagine the possibilities of cinema in ways both inspiring and rejuvenating,” said Senior Curator Andréa Picard. “The programme itself continues to champion film as art in a climate increasingly challenging for non-commercial and non-conforming work. The filmmakers and artists in this year’s edition expand the language of film and video, employing narrative, documentary, hybrid, and formalist approaches to assert film’s status as an autonomous art form and the cinema itself as an essential, communal experience.”
Showcasing a mix of established auteurs, celebrated visual artists, and emerging filmmakers, this year’s Wavelengths presents eight features, two shorts programmes, and an exhibition, placing timeless, durational works alongside projects of the utmost contemporary urgency — each political by nature of its very existence and, by extension, resistance. Additionally, we are honoured to present a number of important moving-image works from recent gallery and museum exhibitions in the cinema, including an exceptional theatrical screening of Tacita Dean’s latest 16mm film, Fata Morgana. Another of this year’s highlights includes the first Canadian solo exhibition of Brooklyn-based Moroccan artist Meriem Bennani in an exciting partnership with The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and The Vega Foundation. Meriem Bennani: Life on the CAPS will be exhibited free to the public at The Power Plant from September 9 through 18.

September
September 8 – “Growing Up” (Disney+ Day Premiere)
Created by Brie Larson and Culture.House, “Growing Up” is an innovative hybrid docu-series that explores the challenges, triumphs, and complexities of adolescence through ten compelling coming of age stories. The series uses narrative, experimental, and documentary filmmaking to follow one casted individual, ages 18-22, as they tell their story. They represent a wide range of lived experiences, giving audiences emotionally powerful narratives that offer an engaging look at teenage-hood and the diverse social, familial, and internal obstacles young people face on their path to self-discovery and acceptance. Each 30-minute episode features one young person, or “hero,” and their experience growing up. Each episode is anchored by a deeply personal interview that allows our heroes to walk us through their childhood and teenage years. Alongside these interviews, creative cinematic reenactments help bring their major inflection points to life.
September 8 – “Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory” (Disney+ Day Premiere)
The face of a new generation of aspirational adventurers and natural history filmmakers, 29-year-old National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory takes viewers on epic and nail-biting journeys that push into the most spectacular and secretive corners of our wild world. Armed with leading-edge film technology, the Disney+ original series “Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory,” from National Geographic, breaks the mold of the traditional natural history program by telling extraordinary, real-life animal stories and taking viewers with him for every beat of the action. For weeks at a time, the charismatic BAFTA Award-winning cinematographer immerses himself into the animals’ lives to capture the untold stories of iconic creatures living in some of the harshest environments on our planet. This season, we will see Bertie braving the icy worlds of Antarctica in search of the biggest gathering of whales ever filmed and coming face-to-face with specialist buffalo-hunting lions in Zambia. In this multipart adventure series, he will take audiences on an ambitious odyssey across the globe, showcasing the natural world at a time when it faces its greatest challenges.
September 19 – “Dancing with the Stars” Season 31
“Dancing with the Stars” is the hit series hosted by supermodel and businesswoman Tyra Banks and actor and television personality Alfonso Ribeiro in which celebrities are paired with trained ballroom dancers to compete in themed choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, including Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough. “Dancing with the Stars” is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions.
September 28 – “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” Season 2
After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name last year, our squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel). It’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey — without school to get in the way. As our Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the question: Can you win summer?
Returning Thursday, September 8, Disney+ Day is an annual celebration of the Disney+ global community that debuted in 2021 and features content premieres from the streaming service’s marquee brands, special experiences and offers for subscribers and fans, and more. This year, Disney+ Day will lead into D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa in Anaheim, CA that runs from Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11.
TIFF today unveiled the 10 features that comprise the Platform programme for 2022. Platform is TIFF’s competitive programme that champions bold directorial visions. From first-time feature directors to veterans, this year’s Platform lineup offers a diverse range of talent and distinct directorial voices that are emerging around the globe. It is a year rich in perspectives, genres, and exceptional performances by newcomers, as well as established actors.
Emily, the feature debut by Frances O’Connor, has been selected as the programme’s opening film, and — like all 10 films in the programme — is a World Premiere. This year’s selection also includes two Canadian titles: Riceboy Sleeps and Viking.
“We launched Platform to shine a brighter light on some of the most original films and distinct voices at our Festival,” said Cameron Bailey, TIFF CEO. “Now in year seven, it’s become a true home for international auteurs on the rise.”
Named after Jia Zhang-ke’s groundbreaking second feature, Platform is curated by TIFF Chief Programming Officer Anita Lee; Director, Festival Programming Robyn Citizen; and Senior Manager, Festival Programming Ravi Srinivasan.
“Eclectic in vision, this year’s selection not only represents all World Premieres of exciting, on-the-rise voices from around the world, but it also reflects the very timely and unique perspectives of racialized filmmakers from diasporic communities broadening the canvas,” said Lee.
The 10 films in the programme are eligible for the Platform Prize, an award of $20,000 CAD given to the best film in the programme, selected by an in-person international jury. This year’s Platform Prize jury will be announced later this summer. Previous jury members include: Claire Denis, Béla Tarr, Brian De Palma, Mira Nair, Riz Ahmed, and Jia Zhang-ke.
Previous Platform selections include Hany Abu-Assad’s Huda’s Salon (2021), Kamila Andini’s Yuni (2021), Darius Marder’s Sound of Metal (2019), Alice Winocour’s Proxima (2019), Kazik Radwanski’s Anne at 13,000 Ft. THE CNE HAS JUST REVEALED ONE OF THE CREATIVE NEW FOOD CONCOCTIONS THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE FAIR THIS YEAR…
Get Ready for Ketchup and Mustard Ice Cream!
Each year, more than 1.4 million visitors flock to the Canadian National Exhibition to satisfy their taste buds, appetites, and curiosities for the zany new foods that have become synonymous with the CNE experience. And while organizers are tight-lipped around the full line-up of crave-worthy and crazy concoctions this year – the CNE has dropped a breadcrumb…Ketchup-Flavoured and Mustard-Flavoured Ice Cream!
It’s a battle of the condiments – in soft serve form! Local Toronto vendor Harrison Swift has been serving up some of the most memorable treats at the CNE Midway since 2013 (ala Pickle Lemonade). New this year, he has come up with a sweet and savoury twist on ice cream offering a ketchup-flavoured and mustard-flavoured soft serve with appropriately fun accoutrements such as a pretzel or fries. For those who love both ketchup and mustard – try them swirled together! The ice creams will be available at a new booth on the CNE Midway called So Cute Ice Cream.
While full list of new food items will remain Top Secret for another few weeks, CNE fans can start contemplating whether they are Team Ketchup or Team Mustard.
Stay tuned for more announcements!
The CNE runs August 22 to September 5, 2022.
Irish Singer-Songwriter Dermot Kennedy already has won the highest honours in music back home and now he has his sights set stateside. Originally slated to support Shawn Mendes on select dates of his now-cancelled Wonder Tour, Kennedy still made the most of it, busking to an audience of thousands who showed up at Trinity Bellwoods Park for the free performance. Kennedy performed a 40-minute set for the crowd,.many fans waving their Irish flags proudly.
Upon leaving the park, Kennedy was swarmed by fans every direction as he was flanked by a security guard, getting him safely to his SUV. Kennedy enjoyed a quiet night out after a hectic Press Day which saw stops at Much and Virgin Radio.
So thrilled we got to meet Kennedy who just earlier this year won Irish Song of the Year at the RTÉ Awards for “Better Days“, and now is prepping his sophomore release SONDER. He is amazingly nice, such an honour meeting this burgeoning star!
