Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
Brooke (Alice Eve) is having a bad night. Her purse and ID were stolen, her phone is broken and she just missed the last train from Grand Central Station to Boston. Nick (Chris Evans), himself having an awful day, senses he can help her. And what starts off as a search for the missing purse quickly becomes a trip around New York City and their emotions.
After starring in a number of Thrillers and Action Films, it is rather surprising Evans would choose a romantic Indie-Dramedy for his directorial debut. But he proves himself just as great behind the camera as he is in front of it, capturing real passion and genuine emotion between the two Leads. While I enjoyed the raw close-ups he hones in on throughout the Film, I could have done without the incessant shaky and wobbly camera angles. They plague the Film at all times, and can become downright distracting. Yet it does not take away from the wonderful chemistry between Evans and Eve. They have both proven to be great Actors on their own, but their pairing together is charming and absorbing. Although the third act is a bit dragged out, I never tired of watching what happened between them on their star-crossed night.
