Netflix Announces The One About Matthew Perry, an Intimate Documentary Series Exploring the Life and Legacy of Matthew Perry

The three-part series, directed by Emmy® Award winner Mary Robertson and produced by Maxine Productions, premieres October 27 only on Netflix

Today, Netflix announced The One About Matthew Perry, the first in-depth, definitive documentary about the beloved Friends star, told by some of the people who knew him best. The intimate three-part series is directed by Emmy® Award winner Mary Robertson and produced by Maxine Productions, a part of Sony Pictures Television.

Anchored through never-before-heard testimonies from his sister Mia Perry Bowick and lifelong best friends, and featuring unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family’s private archive, the three-part series traces his journey from rising comedic star to the man the world still loves as their favorite Friend. Firsthand memories from his creative collaborators and friends who adored him are woven with candid new details on his private struggles, honoring the legacy of honesty and advocacy he leaves behind.

Logline: Told through intimate testimonies from close family and friends, this documentary event reveals the real Matthew Perry—generous, funny, vulnerable, larger than life—and the battles he fought to become the man behind the icon. A raw record of a life lived in full, and the honesty that became his greatest legacy.

Matthew Perry might no longer be here, but his memory lives on forever. Live Loud LIVE: Raising the Volume on Mental Health and Addiction took place last night at Koerner Hall in Toronto, in partnership with Make Music Matter, raising awareness and funds for Matthew Perry House.

Hosted by Tom Power and Tara Slone, the show featured performances by the likes of Serena Ryder, City and Colour, Billy Talent, Royal Wood, Amy Millan (Stars), members of Sum 41, Broken Social Scene, Skydiggers, and Moist. Special guest, The Simpsons star Hank Azaria, performed a few Bruce Springsteen covers in his late friend’s honour, together with his EZ Street Band.
