We’re lucky to have even have had the chance to partake in any star-spotting this year given the circumstances we’ve been in! And even though what we got was a reduced version of TIFF ’21 this year, we’re still thrilled that talent still came through, while production on various Series and Films also continued around town this year. And as always we’re happy to go as close as the talent want to get, ensuring safety first. One day we’ll look back and call this our “Masked Era”.
While this is only a fraction of the quantity of star sightings we’ve had in the past, we did our best to do what we do safely. Some exciting names still passed through Toronto in 2021 and we were there!
I’d have to say it was epic that Toronto’s Simu Liu exploded onto the international stage as a mega star for his work in Marvel Studios’ SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS. Not only was it amazing catching-up in person – he actually remembered my name – we also got a quick interview with him! Other names like Rebecca Ferguson, whom we’ve admire for quite a while, came through for TIFF ’21 and we’re glad we finally got to meet her properly! And when do we not get excited to see Jessica Chastain in-town? One of our highlights was getting a Selfie with Mila Kunis, whom we love, together with beanie bright and early in the AM? While concerts were scaled back quite a bit this year, we’re happy to have met some emerging names on the international scene who actually happen to be Canadian, like Mustafa the Poet and BBNo$! And how cool was it that hot off his venture into space, earning him the distinction of oldest person ever to go to space, William Shatner came to Toronto for Fan Expo Limited Edition?
Let’s take a walk down memory lane!
See some of our favourite star sightings of 2021, in no particular order!
While we will wait a bit for these case counts to go down, we look forward to Toronto being the star-studded City it once was once again!
Mr. Will
TIFF ’21 is officially in full swing and while things are a little less hectic this year, we’re still keeping fully busy, Team Mr. Will catching as many Films as we can and fitting in as many sightings as we can!
We are thrilled to have gotten to see this year’s Opening Night Gala, the uplifting and heartfelt DEAR EVAN HANSEN. We absolutely loved it, and while we’ve never seen the original Musical it was based on, the Film by Stephen Chbosky stands on its own strongly. Floored by star Ben Platt‘s work in this and the Music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul is incredible.
See our thoughts below and Capsule Review here.
We were also lucky enough to find the After Party for the Film, which took place at hotspot Sofia in Yorkville, where we by chance saw Platt leaving, as well as Co-Stars Amandla Stenberg, Danny Pino and Colton Ryan. I cannot wait for you to discover this Film. Bawled my eyes out!
A huge “thank you” also to official TIFF ’21 sponsor RBC for gifting us with tickets which we gave to one lucky Reader to see DEAR EVAN HANSEN at the RBC Lakeside Drive In! Mark Greeno was so lucky to get to see Ben Platt and Amandla Stenberg also in-person as they introduced the Film!

It was quiet for most of the day, but so thrilled we saw Justin Bateman here to present her directorial Feature debut, VIOLET, which continues to get warm reception on the Festival circuit. We saw the Film at SXSW and were overjoyed to see THE MALLORY KEATON of Family Ties, here in-person. She was so sweet and even handed me some swag, official VIOLET pens to keep.
It will be another hectic couple days cramming-in as much as we can and we’re so excited to see SPENCER tomorrow morning – this is the Princess Diana film starring Kristen Stewart which has put her in the early lead for the Best Actress race.
Stay tuned for more. Continue bookmarking and checking this rolling link as we post our updates through out the day!
Our next scheduled CP24 appearance will be Saturday morning. Don’t forget to check it out!

While many Broadway plays have been given the Big Screen treatment, not all have succeeded. Fortunately, Stephen Chboksy‘s DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the real deal!
The deeply-heartfelt coming-of-age story centers on Evan (Ben Platt) who finds himself caught in a spiraling lie after a classmate’s family confuses him aa their son’s secret best friend. The problem is they were never actually friends.
The Musical explores the aftermath of a tragic loss, how we construct the truths we want and at what cost this comes. And ultimately what it means to find your own truth.
Headlined by an outstanding reprised performance by role-originating Platt, the Film is a visceral journey. The odd thing is while many read the humour as Comedy, I could feel his Evan‘s deep anxiety and pain, which was truly palpable.
Supporting turns from Amy Adams, Julianne Moore and Kaitlyn Dever are deeply-affecting. The glue that binds it all is that mesmerizing Soundtrack by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul.
Chbosky ambitiously covers a lot of ground but nails it! Fans are going to love this wonderful translation.

And in a blink of an eye, another TIFF has passed and this one had us working right to the finish line! It’s only after the fact that we have a moment to take it all in how much we went through. We estimate double our average in Celebrity Snaps this year. That’s how star-studded TIFF ’18 was. It was that kind of a year!
We had the pleasure of previewing several of this year’s Awards Season contenders and we are waiting with baited breath to see A STAR IS BORN and GREEN BOOK, both outstanding, duke it out for Oscars glory in coming months. We loved both, are thrilled the latter was honoured with the People’s Choice Award at the Festival, but something about the former makes our heart sing. We cannot stop thinking about it or its Soundtrack. It takes a magical Film to do that.
Let’s relive some of my favourite star-studded moments of the Festival, as lensed through the Nikon D3400. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without this amazing camera which worked amazingly-well with our Blackberry Key 2 in terms of file transmission to ensure we were able to get our photos uploaded and edited within moments for you all to enjoy! The clarity of these snaps speak for themselves.
A STAR IS BORN Press Conference
We will never stop taking our signature Celebrity Selfies and TIFF ’18 was unforgettable even if we saw many returning faces. We wouldn’t have been camera-ready without the right gear and depending on each scenario, sometimes the Blackberry Key 2 worked best for those Selfies, sometimes the Nikon D3400 worked better. What matters is that more often than not, we got the snap! And many we did.
Here’s some of our faves!

In case you missed our Television appearances during TIFF ’18 this is our first year hitting-up the three big media giants: Global, CITY and CP24 (Bell Media). Thrilled! Our brand continues to thrive as a Festival go-to and we are so happy for the recognition.
