Activist and Singer/Songwriter Anthony Wong has built a long, lasting career in his native Hong Kong. The Trailblazer, who also has found success in the duo The Tat Ming Pair, has made significant contributions, lending his voice to Democracy and LGBTQ+ rights through his music, which always has been a step ahead and conceptual.
He played an intimate show at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto earlier this week as part of a two-Canadian date Song of Wanderers Tour. Vancouver also was lucky enough to get a show. The audience got a special surprise with iconic singer Cass Phang, who happened also to be in Toronto, joining him on stage for a hello! They two who have collaborated together before on music, posed for a snap together.
Thrilled to get to meet Wong, whose Music I’ve loved for years. His visit was very low-key, strolling through Kensington Market and Church Street in-between rehearsals. He still looks amazing despite being into his 60s!
Fun fact, our Chinese names are super-similar! His is phoneticized as Wong Yiu Ming, mine is Wong Yiu Ting. TWINNING!
This is my favourite song by his, which translates to “Bringing the World Alive“. Gorgeous tune!
